Privacy Policy

Silavelle ("we", "us") is a new web studio in Ottawa, Ontario. If you email us, a person reads it and answers.

This page says what we collect on this website, and why. It also says what you can ask us to do about it. It is short on purpose.

We follow Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA. It says what a business is allowed to do with your information. You can read it yourself at priv.gc.ca.

Who is responsible, and how to reach them

One person at Silavelle is responsible for privacy here, not a department.

Email hello@silavelle.ca or call 343-700-2727 with any question, request or complaint about your information. We answer, usually within two business days.

What we collect from you

• The free website sample form: your name, your business name, your website address, your email address, and whatever you write in the message box. Netlify hosts this site. Netlify also records the internet address you sent the form from. Every website host does that.
• Your answer to the consent box: We keep a record of whether you ticked it, and the date. That record is how we show you gave us permission to email you.
• If you start the form and do not finish it: once you have ticked the consent box we keep your email address and the date. We use it to send you one message asking whether you still want your website built. One, never more. If you finish the form we delete it straight away. If you unsubscribe we delete it straight away. If we never send the message, we delete it after two weeks.
• When you email us: we keep whatever is in your email, your email address, and anything in your signature.
• Which pages you read. We keep a note of which pages you read, and how far down each one you scrolled. We keep a note of which questions you opened and which buttons you tapped. That note is tied to a random number, not to you. The number lasts until you close the tab. We also keep the country and province, and the kind of browser. We never write down your IP address.
• How you found us. If you send the form, it carries the first page you opened on our site. It also carries the link that sent you here. That is how we learn which of our pages actually helps somebody. It arrives attached to your form, so it is attached to you.

You do not need an account to use this site. We do not take payments here. There are no advertising trackers, ever. Our cookie notice has the details.

Why we need it

• To build the free website sample you asked for, and email you the link.
• To answer your questions.
• To follow up with you about our work, but only if you tick the box on the form.

That box starts empty. It covers two things. We email you the link, and we follow up with you about our work afterwards. It does not put you on a mailing list. You can change your mind at any time. Reply to any email, or write to us, and we stop emailing you. Every email we send you tells you how to stop them.

Who else can see it

We never sell your information. We never rent it or trade it.

Three companies help us run this website, so they see some of it.

• Netlify hosts this site and receives the forms. Netlify may handle form submissions on servers in the United States. We are telling you that plainly, because it is the one thing here you might not expect.
• Microsoft carries our email. Microsoft is an American company. If we ever send you anything automatic, Resend delivers it, on servers in the United States.
• Nobody counts your visit except us. There is no Google Analytics on this site and no analytics company of any kind. We count visits ourselves, with our own code, on Netlify. Those records sit on servers in the United States, which is where your form goes too.

That is the whole list. A court, or the law, could also make us share something.

If we build something for you

Everything above is about this website and our own form. Your own customers are a different matter.

If we build you a booking system, we keep your customers' records on servers here in Canada. Those records stay yours. The written agreement you sign says what we may do with them. This page does not say that.

Before you sign anything, ask us and we will put it in writing. We will say where we keep your customers' information. We will say who at Silavelle can open it. We will say what we do if something goes wrong. We will say exactly what we give back to you if you leave.

Clinics in Ontario must follow a stricter health privacy law, PHIPA. Law offices have their own rules. Anyone else who keeps confidential files has their own rules too. Tell us at the start. Your rules are stricter than ours. We would rather write them into the agreement than find out later.

How long we keep it

We delete your form and our emails no later than 12 months after we last speak. We often delete them sooner, once we no longer need them for the reasons above.

We delete the note of which pages you read after 90 days. If you sent us the form and want that note gone sooner, just ask. We can find it and delete just that note.

If you become a client, the agreement you sign says what we keep and for how long.

How we keep it safe

The connection to this site is encrypted. That is the padlock beside the address in your browser, and you can check it right now.

Inside Silavelle, one person can open what you send through the form. Netlify holds the rest, and publishes its own security practices on its own site.

What you can ask us to do

You can ask what we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it. You can ask us to delete it, or to stop emailing you.

If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain about us to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The link is right there, and you do not need our permission to use it.

If this policy changes

If this policy changes, we put the new version on this page. The date at the top of this page tells you when we last changed it.
